| Fact 7 Children were the highest casualties of Cyclone Sidr. Aid agencies have put the total death count at over 5,000 – more than half being children. An estimated 400,000 children under the age of five have been affected by the fatal storm in Bangladesh, with many drowning or being injured by falling trees. |
| Fact 8 There were about 4.3 million children born in 2007 in Bangladesh, of which about 211,000 (4.8%) have died within the first 12 months after birth. Based on current trends, an additional 435,000 children will die between age 1 and age 5. |
| Fact 9 There were about 2.1 million girls born in 2007 in Bangladesh, of which about 115,000 (5.5%) have died within the first 12 months after birth. Based on current trends, an additional 235,000 girls will die between age 1 and age 5. |
| Fact 10 There were about 2.2 million boys born in 2007 in Bangladesh, of which about 101,000 (4.5%) have died within the first 12 months after birth. Based on current trends, an additional 200,000 boys will die between age 1 and age 5. |
